Large Group Zoom Meetings: How To Use Immersive View

Large Group Zoom Meetings

Take a moment to envision a virtual meeting in which the faces of all participants are grouped together in a single scene. If you are familiar with the Immersive View feature of Zoom, this preview of the metaverse is not a stretch of the imagination. Find out how to use Immersive View in Zoom version 5.6.3 or later and where to find a Immersive View Zoom backgrounds download to customize shared virtual meeting spaces.

What Is Zoom Immersive View?

Immersive View is a relatively recent addition to Zoom included in a version of the video meeting software released on April 19, 2021. This view requires users to be running the Zoom desktop client in version 5.6.3 or later for Android, iOS, macOS or WIndows. Immersive View meetings must be started by a user on the desktop client, though mobile app users can participate.

The backgrounds in Immersive View are called scenes. Some of the most popular scenes for Immersive View include a classroom, cinema, meeting room and open office space. Scenes differ from a basic virtual office Zoom background in that these backgrounds can accommodate up to 25 video participants.

Feel Connected With Your Co-Workers

Workers at businesses that are fully remote or hybrid often experience a diminished sense of connection to their co-workers. The social impact of working at home is just as important to consider as studies that suggest that many workers can be more productive at home than in distracting office environments that require commuting.

Immersive View meetings go beyond standard video calls and conferences to give participants a sense of sharing space. When participants have the right version of Zoom and enable the virtual background feature, a gathering held in Immersive View may feel less artificial than video calls and meetings in standard or screen sharing views. Any approach to communication that fosters a sense of connection can benefit staff members working at home.

Set Up Immersive View Meetings

Meeting organizers and participants should check Zoom virtual background requirements before starting or logging onto a meeting held in Immersive View. While Immersive View does not require use of the Virtual Background feature, it works best when all of the users attending a meeting have this functionality.

By default, a circular frame may appear around users that do not meet Virtual Background system requirements. Meeting participants who have video set to off will appear as their profile picture. In other words, Immersive View meetings can include all Zoom users and can enable users running version 5.6.3 or later and who have the Virtual Background feature to enjoy the best performance in this view.

Once you know how to set up Immersive View in Zoom, you can experiment with different scenes for this view. For smaller virtual meetings or one-on-one video conferences or calls, you may prefer to use a virtual office background. This type of background can be used in Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet and also makes it easy to display a high-resolution business logo.
